26 Gassing Suspects Arrested Across the Country, they are now in courts - Kampyongo

The 26 gassing suspects arrested across the country are now appearing before the courts of law for various charges.

Home Affairs Minister, Stephen Kampyongo, has announced that one among the suspects arrested on the Copperbelt Province today is believed to be one among the coordinators of the gassing incidences.

The Minister says the perpetrators operate in groups with various coordinators which the police will soon share with the general public information that’s kicking off on the motives of gassing.

Mr Kampyongo has indicated that a number of the suspects arrested are charged under the terrorism Act Section 9 while other suspects are appearing in court for cases like murder.

He was speaking in Lusaka today at a joint press briefing held at the Ministry of information, with Minister of information and Broadcasting Services, Dora Siliya and Minister of General Education, David Mabumba.

The Minister further assured the general public that Lusaka is returning to calm which people should stop living in fear because the men and ladies in uniform are on the bottom to make sure that order is restored.

Mr Kampyongo said the police have made a lot of progress in rounding up the suspects.

And Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, Dora Siliya, said government remains focused and committed to making sure that the gassing and every one killings of innocent people are delivered to a stop.

Ms Siliya, who is also Chief Government Spokesperson, said people should appreciate the measures that the govt is fixing place to make sure that order is restored unlike politicking things .

She said it’s sad that 46 people are killed in mob justice a number of whom were innocent people and really documented within the community.

The Minister noted that each well-meaning citizen should worry with the mob killing of innocent people rather than accusing government of getting blood on their hands due to measures taken to revive calm and order within the nation.

She added that the police are concerned about the security of the people hence putting up certain measures for them to research and restore calm in order that people should be ready to move freely.

Meanwhile, Minister of General Education, David Mabumba, stated that schools will still function normally as leadership is being provided to make sure that the gassing activity is addressed collectively.

The Minister said his Ministry is functioning along side the Ministry of Home Affairs to take care of things .

He also noted that the knowledge shared with various school managers is enough for them to strengthen security systems in schools

Zambia Primary School In Kapiri Was Attacked By Gassers

Grade five pupils and their class teacher at Shalom grade school in Kapiri Mposhi district are admitted to Kapiri Urban Clinic after an unknown persons sprayed a toxic substance in their class room.

The incident happened around 12:00 hours yesterday, when an unknown person sprayed the chemical within the classroom and fled.

The pupils who were having class lessons at the time experienced nausea and vomited with others losing their breath and fainted.

A combined team of security and medical officers rushed to the school to evacuate the children to the clinic for medical attention.

And a ZANIS crew that rushed to the clinic found children being attended to at the outpatient wards.

According to affected pupils talked to, the suspected gasser sprayed the poison through one among the opened windows and immediately fled.

No suspect has been arrested in connection to the incident.

Police have however launched investigations within the matter.
